Born in Thornaby in 1889, he was a crane driver when he enlisted in the 5th (Territorial) Battalion DLI. Trained as a machine gunner, he was attached to the 150th Machine Gun Company and was wounded in 1915 and again in 1916, losing a leg from a shrapnel wound. His other leg was amputated during the 1920's. Frank Kidd was awarded the Military Medal in November 1916 for his bravery during the Battle of the Somme. He died in 1940.
